Subject: Anesthetist Jams
When doctors know that you, the patient, are a med student, things always change. Usually, they are more chill. For example, anesthesiologists play music during their cases. Always. Obviously, patients don’t want to know that their doc is jamming out to ‘Living on a Prayer’ while ‘monitoring’ your vitals, so it usually starts after you’re out. Today, however, the bro anesthesiologist, who was maybe all of 35, started to jam out to the song below before he even put my IV in. My surgeon (who is like the proud Chinese father I never had), responded thusly: ‘What is going on with this music?’ Anesthesia Bro was like, ‘What, you don’t like this?!,’ totally incredulously as he jammed out to Dorris Day and I hoped he trained somewhere good. This is all to say that the surgery went well, and I have a new favorite specialty.
